![]() ![]() Not All Dead White Men reveals that some of the most controversial and consequential debates about the legacy of the ancients are raging not in universities but online. In defense or retaliation, feminists have also taken up the Classics online, to counter the sanctioning of violence against women. By appropriating the Classics, these men lend a veneer of intellectual authority and ancient wisdom to their project of patriarchal white supremacy. On other sites, pickup artists quote Ovid’s Ars Amatoria to justify ignoring women’s boundaries. She finds, mixed in with weightlifting tips and misogynistic vitriol, the words of the Stoics deployed to support an ideal vision of masculine life. Its proponents cite ancient Greek and Latin texts to support their claims-arguing that they articulate a model of masculinity that sustained generations but is now under siege.ĭonna Zuckerberg dives deep into the virtual communities of the far right, where men lament their loss of power and privilege and strategize about how to reclaim them. A virulent strain of antifeminism is thriving online that treats women’s empowerment as a mortal threat to men and to the integrity of Western civilization. ![]()

Me before you series5/29/2023 ![]() You can see the end coming, but you cannot do anything to stop it you are hostage to your own twisted devotion to “Happily Ever After”. Reading this book was similar to being a train crash victim. Yes, I know it was naïve of me to think that these two love birds would get together in the end but how am I supposed to think else wise when everything from the tone of voice to key plot points (ie, two completely different people forced into each other’s company) has the air of a mills and boon formula. ![]() ![]() ![]() Lou, 20-something, has been made redundant from her waitressing job and is forced to take the position of carer for Will, an also 20-something ex lawyer who has been paralysed due to a freak accident. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() She was born in G teborg in 1954 where she now lives. Superman by Robert Bernstein5/29/2023 ![]() ![]() For a villain so lame we will never use him again. Confused you never heard about Black Zero? Well that's because other writers (rightfully) said "Wow Otto, that was really stupid of you to retcon the destruction of Krypton like that. Apparently Jor-el was an idiot and Krypton wasn't going to explode.but Black Zero happened along and helped blow it up so Jor-el accidentally was right. ![]() It is called "The Man Who Destroyed Krypton" and it involves a villain called "Black Zero" who was REALLY the person who destroyed Krypton. The worst story was written by Otto Binder and it was so bad it might rank up there as one of the worst stories I have ever read. The best story is one I have read before - the introduction of Mon-el. ![]() The stories have the connection of involving the Phantom Zone BUT it turns out most writers couldn't think of a good way to use it or construct interesting characters that escaped from it. They’re Going to Love You is my fourth novel (sixth if you count the two I coauthored under a penname) but my first to narrate. And when I wrote about Carlisle putting them on, I tested out a pair in my kitchen. I do have a box of old pointe shoes in my closet, though, saved from last performances. The experience the character Carlisle Martin has, dancing around like a perimenopausal Cinderella, is not one I’ve had. An imprint of myself, but not my own story. It takes its name from a 1904 product label for Droste Cacao by Jan Misset: a nurse holds a tray with a tin of Droste’s Cacoa, labeled with a tiny version of herself holding a tray with a tin of Droste’s Cacoa. What’s next? Making an audio recording of this essay? In art there is something called the Droste Effect, a recursive loop where smaller versions of an image are placed inside themselves. Now I’m writing about the experience of narrating the audiobook. “A perimenopausal Cinderella.” The third try was successful, and I carried on with my character’s description of dancing in pointe shoes, in her forties. I couldn’t see him, just a corner of his console. The engineer outside my booth made no comment. “A perimesopollo-yikes.” In my headphones, I heard my director laugh. ![]() Wallbanger by alice clayton5/28/2023 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The next step in their lives seems preordained-toasts, veils, and the aisle of rose petals.
